Stone Diaries: An exhibition of contemporary Zimbabwean sculpture
Distillery District Trinity Street Toronto, ON

Stone Diaries: An exhibition of contemporary Zimbabwean sculpture

With live music by the Nyamamusango Marimba Ensemble

The cobblestones on Trinity Street, in the heart of The Distillery District, will provide the perfect backdrop for this significant outdoor exhibition.

Thirty of the 50 artists represented by ZimArt will be featured, and Letwin Mugavazi,  an internationally exhibited Zimbabwean sculptor, will be on site to both demonstrate her art and act as an ambassador for her fellow artists.

Letwin, who has been selected as the 2011 artist-in-residence by ZimArt, has created a body of work for her Canadian residency which tells the story of the African woman. Traditional grandmothers will stand beside her “sassy’ ladies – urban modern women. The power, beauty, dignity and the vulnerability of women are all explored in their vital and diverse roles in the family and Zimbabwean society.

Stone Diaries is the first of three Canadian exhibitions showcasing Letwin’s story of the African woman.

    July 7 -10, 2011, 10.00 a.m. to 8.00 p.m
    Reception: July 7, 4.00 to 7.00 p.m.
