People with Sway: DJ Lissa Monet
Contribution: From hip-hop to retro to mash-ups, this multifaceted DJ can amp up a crowd at any party. She was the 2009 and 2010 Stylus Female DJ, and has made a mark in the industry by spinning for everyone from LeBron James, Drake, Rachel Roy and Ludacris to brands such as Sony Style, Fuze and more.
Using DJing as a launching pad, Monét has expanded her brand to include blogging, artist development, and signature mixtapes such as Love Letters and Broken Hearts.
Inspiration: “Music is the inspiration. You’ll hear a song for the first time and just can’t wait to play it at the club, to hear it on the big speakers. These days, music comes out every nanosecond. But when a good song come out, and it’s a timeless song, that’s what makes DJing worthwhile.
Even though sometimes it doesn’t happen often, those are the moments where you think, ‘This is the best job in the world.’”
