Man Grooming
Men, being fashionable also means being wellgroomed. Just ask Ashley Cox, manager and head aesthetician at The Men’s Power Spa. She shares her top tips and favourite products for power pampering.
Face off
“Black skin, which is typically oily with some dehydration, can become chapped or flaky in colder months,” says Cox. She recommends using a gel-based moisturizer daily to provide a barrier to the elements and much needed moisture to skin.
Smooth operator
Get rid of dry patches and reduce unsightly ingrown hairs with regular exfoliation (the gentle removal of the top, dead layer of skin). “Three times a week, massage a scrub with a slightly grainy texture into face and neck before you shave to soften skin and lift hairs,” she says. Stay away from products with sea salt or anything too scratchy.
Goodbye dry skin
Shea butter is a heavy-duty moisturizer ideal for rough hands, elbows, knees and feet. Just don’t use it on your face. “A lot of men don’t realize that you need separate products. Since you have thicker skin on your body, using it on your face could cause blemishes,” says Cox. The Men’s Power Spa, 14 Duncan Street on the lower level, offers a full range of quick, affordable skin and body care services for the wellgroomed man on the go.
