Made In Canada: LG Fashion Week’s Dare to Wear Love
On the last day of LG Fashion Week the FDCC capped the night off with their second annual Dare to Wear Love Gala that featured a fashion show and auction with proceeds going to the Stephen Lewis Foundation.
The fashion show was developed by Dare to Wear Love founders and Hoax Couture creative directors Chris Tyrell and Jim Searle. They challenged 24 Canadian designers to create a piece for the runway using six yards of African fabric showcasing a great mix of textiles from various regions on celebrities such as Keshia Chante, who fit right in with the models.
At the end of the night the garments were placed on the auction block to raise money in support of the Stephen Lewis Foundation, an organization that works with HIV and AIDS afflicted victims in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Although the auction ended on November 2, 2010 you can still buy items from Dare to Wear Love’s online store or donate to The Stephen Lewis Foundation. Those interested in hearing Lewis speak about HIV and AIDS in Africa on The Great Canadian Conversation can watch a live broadcast on November 29, 2010 at 8pm on www.stephenlewisfoundation.org. The discussion will be taking place in anticipation of World AIDS Day on December 1, 2010.
Awesome collection! ok I admit that I may be a bit biased, since I tend to like everything that helps charity, but I really think the designers did a great job. I am always trying to save up some money to be able to afford the models like these once they appear
