Beauty Buzz: honeydipp
Few beauty products evoke memories of a rambunctious childhood spent running through the streets of the Caribbean. And in a beauty market saturated with lotions and potions that promise to fix everything from acne to cellulite, products that speak to the inner Caribbean beauty queen are rare.
For Dionne McKay and Mickella Sealey, founders of bath and body line Honey Dipp, turning those fond memories into an indulgent beauty collection meant staying true to their Caribbean roots.
“(Honey Dipp) scents speak to where we come from,” Sealey says of the company’s mandate to feature ingredients from the Caribbean.
Sealey and McKay created Honey Dipp in 2004 after combing through magazines and reminiscing about their beauty-filled childhoods. Since its launch, Honey Dipp has found a loyal following among beauty editors and bathing beauties; celebs who have been “honey-dipped” include Erykah Badu and Beyonce.
As self-professed beauty junkies, Sealey and McKay wasted no time deciding which ingredients to feature. They remembered how their mothers used aloe to nurse their bites and burns, and coconut oil to treat dry, ashy skin; those ingredients have become staples in their exclusive collection of body washes, lotions, soy candles, sugar scrubs and sea-sponge soaps.
Honey Dipp’s best-selling body butter contains a skin-softening blend of aloe, jojoba and chamomile, while other luscious products are concocted with such nourishing ingredients as coconut oil and cane sugar. The newest Honey Dipp product, mineral lip glaze, will have you feeling as though you’re applying a Caribbean sunset directly to your perfect pout.
Honey Dipp products are available in a range of comfort flavours, including Island Burst and Ocean Breeze. Enticing blends (coconut lime and warm vanilla, anyone?) lure bath-lovers to slip into a world dipped in decadence.
