Emancipation Day: Celebrating Freedom in Canada details the significance of the commemoration of August 1, 1834 and the history of Emancipation Day celebrations in Canada. Natasha Henry officially launches her book at St. James Cathedral in Toronto. Join Natasha for an evening of arts performances, literary discussion, reading, and a book signing. 7:30 pm.

106 & York Urban Arts Festival
Created to promote getting inner-city youth off the streets and onto the stage, this year’s show will feature the best Toronto has to offer. A compilation of fashion shows, visual art (photography & graffiti) and performances in music, dance, and spoken word, will fill the stage. 106 & YORK’s 2010 line up will include performances by RICH KIDD, MAYHEM MOREARTY, LINDA LUZTONO, NORTHBUCK, REDWAY and MANY MORE. 8th Annual JCA Scholarship Awards
In keeping with the Association’s mandate of community outreach and responding to the educational needs of the community, the JCA Scholarship and Awards Program was established to provide financial assistance to worthy students from the Caribbean/African communities pursuing post-secondary studies in Ontario universities and colleges. The 8th Annual Scholarship Awards will be presented at 7:30 pm.

2010 Toronto Natural Hair & Beauty Show
The 2010 Toronto Natural Hair & Beauty Show encompasses a day of workshops on skin care, natural hair maintenance and hairstyling techniques, both for men and women, lead by industry experts and a fashion/hair show, as well as a marketplace of local businesses. $15 at the door ( no advance tickets) Children 12 and under are Free $10 for students with a valid 2009/2010 Student Card. 11:00 am – 8:00 pm.
