The Canadian Association of Black Lawyers (CABL) is recognizing members who have made partner in the country’s top corporate law firms in a reception to be held September 23.

“We have emerged as leading members of the legal community in a broad spectrum of practice areas,” CABL president Frank Walwyn said in a press release. “CABL is recognizing those members who have become Bay Street partners since, historically, we have been under-represented in some of the country’s largest business law firms.”

The Canadian Association of Black Lawyers is a national association of lawyers, judges, academics and law students dedicated to identifying and addressing the professional needs, objectives and goals of black legal professionals and black law students.

Honourees will make a donation to the Michael Kelly Memorial Award, an entrance scholarship for a black student entering the first year of the J.D. program at the University of Toronto.

Michael St. Patrick Baxter, a Canadian partner in the Washington, D.C., office of Covington & Burling LLP  will play toastmaster at the event.
