I play mas because: I have a diverse Caribbean background and it’s a great way to express a part of my culture. The bright colours, the vibrancy, I love it all.

On dressing up: It makes me feel empowered as a young lady. Dressing up is amazing because it’s a celebration of so many Caribbean cultures. I help with making the costumes as well. So much work and so many  hours go into making us look amazing.

My beauty tip: Think of fun and creative accessories to add to your costume. I had neon slinkies on my arms last year and people loved it.

Advice to other women: Do it for yourself. When you have the confidence to play mas, it shows the world you have a sense of happiness with yourself. It’s a chance to express who you are. Don’t be shy — every race, shape and size can play mas.

When I play mas I feel: Empowered.
