Canadian hip-hop hall-of-famer k-os is making the most interesting and spirited music of his career and he’s found the ideal way to share it. On Aug. 6, he’ll release The Anchorman Mixtape, 10 brand spankin’ new tracks that’ll be available for a limited time at http://tour-tv.com/mixtape/. Over the next few months, the tracks will be accessible through all DSPs in a “Double A-Side” format with a video and bonus content. It’s an inspired but practical approach to distribution, a modern take on Berry Gordy’s label-building strategies during the ’60s at Motown, when the vinyl 45 was king.

Look for the lead-off single of the series, “Faith/BlackWater” to surface in late August. “Faith” is a collaboration with Drake, while “BlackWater” finds him once again working with Sebastien Grainger. Director X will compile a video from recent documentary footage that k-os and Sebastien shot during a recent, eye-opening trip to the US Gulf Coast, where they witnessed first-hand the devastation of the recent BP oil-rig disaster. All proceeds from the video will go to the Mobile Baykeeper group in Alabama. In this case, you really do need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows.
