CHRY 105.5 FM celebrates 24 years with Musicville
CHRY 105.5 F.M. presents Musicville: the All Canadian Showcase celebrating CHRY’s 24th year on the F.M. dial. This talent-laden event will highlight some of the leading acts in Reggae, Calypso, Gospel and Acoutics with some comedic timbre in-between.
The response from veteran performers and “stars on the rise” has been overwhelming and the event organizers promise that these combinations will be highly entertaining and robust.
This instalment of Musicville will be held on Friday October 14th, 2011 at the Jamaica Canadian Association located at 995 Arrow Road. The event will see the illustrious powerhouses Nana McLean, Macomere FiFi, Bob E. Ruglass and Jay Douglas joined by torchbearers Steele, Visionary, Tanya Mullings, Trèson, DJango, Jassette Haughton, Donnett Thompson-Hall, LG Morgan, Structure and Yellows.
All artists on the main stage will be supported by notable live bands Mountain Edge, Nu Genration and Uni Production Gospel Band. The comedic energies and event flow will be in the capable hands of Jay Martin, Marcia Brown and Owen “Blakka” Ellis.
Through Musicville, CHRY Community Radio Inc. will enhance its central role of supporting the GTA’s diverse and underserved communities for numerous decades.
From its humble beginnings as a campus radio club in the basement of Vanier College at York University in 1968 to its current broadcast status as a protected F.M. station functioning from the York University Student Centre, CHRY’s connection to the wider community through talent development and promotion has had immeasurable impacts on the local music scene in the GTA. This consistent connection has led the station to unbreakable bonds with local and now global talents. It is no doubt the reason for such stellar artist support for this year’s fundraising event. CHRY looks forward to giving Torontonians a fantastic show while they support a worthy cause. Admission is $25 at the door.
