Karen Richardson (a.k.a Nurse Karen), is the main voice behind the globe’s premiere international Soca and Carnival news roundup on Flow 93.5 FM. Podcasted to thousands of music fans around the world, Richardson has been at the centre of the growing genre of Caribbean music.

Her show offers fans a glimpse into the professional work and personal philosophies of Caribbean artists. Her work as a journalist/radio host allows Richardson an opportunity to bridge the gap between Caribbean artists and North American music fans.

“When listeners hear me on-air for a few minutes each Sunday, they may not realize how many hours I put into listening to music, talking to and instant messaging producers, artists and other media people.

I read newspapers from all over the islands. You can’t do your subject any justice if you don’t understand what they do. To me, that’s my edge.

Being a Caribbean person, I have a vested interest in portraying Caribbean music and people accurately. I get it. What I don’t know, I try to learn. That part of the process is very gratifying to me.”
