Dennis Basso-Fall 2010

By Karen Welcome

From the faux fur yeti boots at Chanel to the colour-blocked patchwork done with fur at Fendi, fur was prevalent on Fall 2010 runways. Fur was found on every possible design including a chic vest from Marni.

For this look, spruce up your wardrobe with a fur cape or a great pair of mukluks, like the pair from the Anna Sui collection. Or go out and get yourself a soft faux fur jacket from Zara or a leopard print coat from Joe Fresh. There are many plush options to choose from this season and if you can’t afford the real thing…well, as the old saying goes, “fake it ’til you make it!”

Shaved blonde pompadour

By Isake Tom

From the extremely overdone rendition of the ‘do’ by American singer Janelle Monae to the more street ready version donned by the models of Fendi’s fall 2010 show, the pompadour is back, ready to tackle catwalks and red carpets everywhere. The rockabilly vintage inspired look, made popular in the 1940’s and 50’s, has resurfaced making it a fall 2010 hair trend.

To achieve this look, experts recommend smoothing the hair on the sides of the head, or if you’re feeling really brave completely shaving the hair off is an option as well. This gives the hair in the crown or bangs area some height.

To maintain the height of the hair at the crown, tease, backcomb and pin the hair, firmly securing it. Feel free to use bobby pins or hairspray to keep flyaways at bay, guaranteeing a long lasting glam look.  For a cute playful version of the pompadour, curling the hair in the crown area is also a great trick.

Tip: This trend calls for bold makeup, so go wild with smoky eyes and red lips.

Runway Trends: Tan and Camel http://swaymag.ca/2010/09/runway-trends-tan-and-camel/ http://swaymag.ca/2010/09/runway-trends-tan-and-camel/#comments Wed, 08 Sep 2010 12:17:01 +0000 swaymag http://swaymag.ca/?p=2713

This season’s hottest hues are tan and camel. These shades were done head-to-toe for a minimalist look or paired with a hint of denim to shake things up. From pantsuits at Chloe (pictured above) to the must-have envelope clutches at Prada, it seems anything within the spectrum of brown or beige goes. When applied to a nicely structured item such as the overcoat, these colours will provide you with the ease of knowing you have clothing that you can depend on for years to come.

MAC's Hang Up, left. Limited edition Radicchio, right

This year, purple is inarguably the colour for fall. From Dior to Peter Som, the runways are awash with deep plums and grayish violets. While such an eye catching colour may not be for everyone, the faint at heart can soften the look with a semi-sheer purple or purple lip gloss.

So what do you guys think? It’s fair to say that recently black women have been taking more risks with their lipstick colour choices, opting for more vivid and bolder colours. No longer are we frowned up for picking up a bright pink or orange lipstick. Will purple lipstick get the green light as well?

Call us impatient but here at Sway we can’t wait to ring in the new season with funky new nail polish. With fall 2010 quickly approaching it’s time to put away summer’s bright and fun pigments, and welcome fall’s dark and mysterious colours. This fall the runways are already ablaze with striking metallics, soft neutrals and deep purples. While summer’s playful varnishes will be missed, fall’s moodier and superglam shades simply cannot wait. Read on for our top four fall 2010 nail polish trends.

Metallics

Ladies what can help you feel more festive and stylish than this season’s metallic nail polish? Whether gold, silver or a sparkling purple, these polishes are sure to make you twinkle and standout at any holiday party.

Black

Once again black is still the new black! Black nail polish continues to be a fall favourite; great for those who love dark and vampy looks.

Neutrals and Matte

Neutrals and matte nail polish always make a subdued and classy statement. The great thing about these colours is that they are flattering on all skin tones. This year ‘greige’ is all the rage, with Chanel releasing LES KHAKIS DE CHANEL a neutral three colour nail lacquer collection.

Purple

Think Purple Reign. This fall, purple is the colour for rockstars, with sophisticated shades of orchid, mauve and lavender, emerging to create edgy avant garde looks.
