People with Sway: Regular Robb

8 April 2011 No Comments

By Felicia Carty

Occupation: Emcee, and a regular guy

Contribution: Having dropped rhymes for more than a decade, Regular Robb took his game to the next level with The Calm Before the Storm, a well-received EP that was released in late 2010. He’ll continue to impact Canadian hip-hop with his follow up full-length album The Brainstorm.

Inspiration: “Before I wrote raps, I used to freestyle a lot. The first verse I actually learned was the second verse of Biggie Smalls’ Sky’s the Limit. I remember I was standing on stage, in Grade 7, and I was so nervous to do this talent show. The audience was packed. People knew me as this little joker, but when I started spitting that verse, they really saw the presence of what I was doing. From that moment on, people pushed me and told me hip-hop is what I should do, and I felt it in me.”
