Mandela in Focus

Peter Hain is not your typical British legislator. Born in South Africa to anti-apartheid activist parents, the young Hain witnessed countless acts of brutality directed at the country’s Black freedom fighters and the white constituents who joined in the cry for equality.

After his parents were jailed and then banished from the country, Hain began a life-long quest with a singular dream to see the end of apartheid in South Africa.

In his latest book, simply titled Mandela, Hain delves into the life of the man that would most aptly come to personify the fight for a free South Africa. The book traces the events of Nelson Mandela’s early life — including his often overlooked tribal roots, university days, career as a young lawyer and the formative years of the African National Congress. Hain also takes us through the injustice of Mandela’s 30-year prison exile, and the triumphant release of the man who has become known as the Father of South Africa.

The book will not disappoint fans and followers of Mandela’s life of achievement as Hain explores the realities faced by Black Africans during the height of the apartheid era, and examines how they shaped an iron resolve in the unshakable icon. Interviews and testimonials from globally recognized personalities including Archbishop Desmond Tutu, former British prime minister Tony Blair and former American president Bill Clinton, bring together a vision of Mandela that encapsulates the strength and spirit of the man and his people.
