Life begins behind the lens for Tony Sladden. After arriving in Canada from Trinidad 26 years ago, Sladden decided that he would capture the cultural nuances of Toronto one image at a time.
Sladden’s work revolves around expressiveness, from the build-up of the boat rides to the opening day, and the sense of anticipation that he considers to be just like “back home, although there, the parties are longer!” Photography is Sladden’s way of documenting Caribana’s impact on Toronto and its reflection of the multiculturalism of the Caribbean.
“Photography allows your memories to be much longer-lasting. What you capture is a moment of acceleration. Photography tells a story; photography captures the moment of intensity.” – Adebe D.A.
